📘 Understanding the Comprehensive Plan

A Comprehensive Plan serves as a long-term roadmap for a community, guiding decisions on development, resource allocation, and policy-making. It addresses various elements, including land use, transportation, economic development, housing, and natural resources. The plan is developed through a collaborative process involving public input, data analysis, and strategic planning.

🏛️ Role of Regional Commissions

In Georgia, the planning process is supported by Regional Commissions (RCs), which are multi-county planning and development agencies. Turner County falls under the Southern Georgia Regional Commission. RCs provide technical assistance, facilitate intergovernmental coordination, and ensure that local plans align with regional and state objectives. Georgia Department of Community Affairs

🏛️ State Requirements

The State of Georgia mandates that all local governments maintain a current Comprehensive Plan to retain their Qualified Local Government (QLG) status. This status is essential for eligibility for certain state funding and programs. The Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA) oversees this process, providing guidelines and support to ensure compliance.
