The Plan

Here's my plan

For the last few weeks you’ve seen pieces of my plan in ads. Today I’m putting the whole thing out.

It’s called the Ashburn Comeback Plan: Building Our Community From the Inside Out. It has 65 commitments across eight pillars, and 12 of them start in my first 90 days.

How it’s built

Every commitment answers three questions: what gets done, how, and when. It also says who has to say yes. Some I can do on my own the day I’m sworn in. Some need a council vote, and I can’t promise a vote I don’t control. Some need a partner outside City Hall, like the county, the state, the school system, or the churches. I tell you which is which, because a what without a how is just a wish.

What’s in it

The plan starts with Know Your City, because most of us were never taught who handles what. From there it covers Our Young People, Our Neighborhoods, Parks, Health, and Recreation, Our Elders and Veterans, Public Safety, Running City Hall Right, and Business, Downtown, and I-75.

The first 90 days

The early work is mostly finding out and fixing what’s cheap. A plain guide to who does what, so you know who to call when your ditch floods or your water’s out. A recap after every council meeting, so you know how I voted and why. A public condition list for our streets, water lines, sewer, and ditches. And a scorecard on this whole plan every three months: done, moving, or stuck, and why.

The bigger things, like a repair schedule, park rehabilitation, and bringing downtown back, go on a timeline. Some of it runs past one term, on purpose. Small wins now. Big plans on a schedule.

This plan will change

It’s a living plan. As I listen to neighbors and learn more, it will change, and every change is dated and explained on the plan changes page.

What I’m asking

Read it. Tell me what I got wrong and what I missed. Take the community survey, about 7 minutes. Come see me this week at one of three events.

Early voting runs through October 30. Election Day is November 3.
