Know Your City

Do you know who runs what?

Someone in Ashburn calls 911 for an ambulance. Who sends it?

If you said the city, you’re not alone. It’s the county. And that’s the point. Most of us were never taught who runs what. The city, the county, the school board, and the state each handle different things, and when you don’t know which is which, you don’t know who to call or who to hold responsible.

That’s why Know Your City is the first part of the Ashburn Comeback Plan. And it’s why I built a game.

How it works. After you finish the community survey, you can play Who Does What?, eight quick questions on who handles what in Ashburn and Turner County. It takes about a minute. You’ll see the right answer after each one, with a short reason, and you’ll finish with a rank: Noobie, Resident, or Vigilant Citizen.

It will grow. This is the first version, on purpose. Over time it gets more questions and more levels. Past Vigilant Citizen come council, mayor, and county commissioner, and from there state and federal government. Learn your own city first, then work your way up. When it changes, I’ll say so here.

Why it matters. A room nobody knows how to enter is a closed room, whether the door is locked or not. The more of us who know how local government works, the harder it is for decisions to get made without us.

Take the survey, play the game, and tell me what rank you got.

This game is part of my campaign for Ashburn City Council. It is not an official City of Ashburn or Turner County product.
