James Burgess for Ashburn City Council

Sec. 14-100Quarantine of area of city

Unchanged since the 2007 code
Plain English: what this chapter covers

This chapter covers keeping animals in town: loose dogs and livestock, rabies shots and tags, reporting bites, cruelty and neglect, impoundment at the city's designated shelter, and the rules for dogs classified as dangerous or vicious. A word of caution: a lot of it is printed twice (rules from 2001 and again from 2011), and two different sets of dangerous-dog rules are still on the books, so it's worth asking the city which version they enforce.

Whenever in the judgment of the city council, after consultation with the Turner County Health Department, the public health and safety so require, the council shall declare and establish a quarantine zone or area consisting of the whole or any part of the city and maintain such quarantine therein until such time as they may deem it advisable to lift the same. During the existence of such quarantine, it shall be unlawful for any person to violate any of the rules and regulations proscribed by the city council with reference to such quarantine.

This is a plain-English guide, not legal advice. The official code is on Municode and at City Hall. Our copy is from April 30, 2026.
