James Burgess for Ashburn City Council

Sec. 14-92Bite report required by those providing care

Unchanged since the 2007 code
Plain English: what this chapter covers

This chapter covers keeping animals in town: loose dogs and livestock, rabies shots and tags, reporting bites, cruelty and neglect, impoundment at the city's designated shelter, and the rules for dogs classified as dangerous or vicious. A word of caution: a lot of it is printed twice (rules from 2001 and again from 2011), and two different sets of dangerous-dog rules are still on the books, so it's worth asking the city which version they enforce.

It shall be the duty of every physician to report immediately to the Turner County Health Department the full name, age, and address of any person under his care or observation who has been bitten by an animal in the city. If no physician is in attendance and the person is a child, it shall be the duty of the parent or guardian to make such report immediately. If the person is an adult, such person shall make the report, or if incapacitated, it shall be made by whoever is caring for the person bitten.

This is a plain-English guide, not legal advice. The official code is on Municode and at City Hall. Our copy is from April 30, 2026.
