Plain English: what this chapter covers

This chapter covers keeping animals in town: loose dogs and livestock, rabies shots and tags, reporting bites, cruelty and neglect, impoundment at the city's designated shelter, and the rules for dogs classified as dangerous or vicious. A word of caution: a lot of it is printed twice (rules from 2001 and again from 2011), and two different sets of dangerous-dog rules are still on the books, so it's worth asking the city which version they enforce.

(a) No person shall allow any animal over which he has custody or control to remain on his property or premises if the same shall constitute a as defined in this chapter.

(b) In city , except SA suburban agriculture, it shall be unlawful for any person to keep or maintain any pen or enclosure for any animal within 25 feet of any property line. This subsection is intended to apply to kennels, pens, and other enclosures. Fenced or walled yards are not required to have such fence or wall 25 feet from property. A perimeter fence is not affected by the 25-foot minimum setback.
