Sec. 1-7Altering Code
Plain English: what this chapter covers
Chapter 1 is the instruction manual for reading the rest of the code. It defines common words like 'person' and 'street,' explains how to count deadlines, says that if a court strikes down one part the rest still stands, and sets the default punishment for breaking a city ordinance when no other penalty is listed.
It shall be unlawful for any person to change or amend, by additions or deletions, any part or portion of this Code or to insert or delete pages or portions of the Code, or to alter or tamper with such Code in any manner whatsoever which will cause the law of the city to be misrepresented. Any person violating this section shall be punished as provided in section 1-12.
History: (Code 1983, § 1-7)
State Law reference— Altering, falsifying or stealing public records unlawful, § 45-11-1.
This is a plain-English guide, not legal advice. The official code is on Municode and at City Hall. Our copy is from April 30, 2026.
