Sec. 22-53Daily reports

Unchanged since the 2007 code

Paper-only reporting slows stolen-property recovery for residents who've been burglarized. See the fix

Plain English: what this chapter covers

This is the chapter for anyone running a business in town: the yearly occupation tax (the city's business license), plus special rules for pawn shops, phone companies, arcades and coin-operated machines, fireworks stands, food trucks, and permits for special events on city property like festivals, parades and big cookouts in the park. Several parts are fairly recent (2015-2025), but some, like the pawnshop rules, are older and still describe paper record books.

Each person engaging in business as a pawnbroker shall file daily written reports at 10:00 a.m. with the police chief showing the name and description of the persons who pawned or sold articles the preceding 24 hours and a detailed description of each article pawned or sold. It is hereby made the duty of the police chief to obtain such report promptly each day. It shall be unlawful for any pawnbroker to fail or refuse to make such daily report in the manner prescribed by this section, and the license and permit of any such offender shall stand immediately forfeited.

This is a plain-English guide, not legal advice. The official code is on Municode and at City Hall. Our copy is from April 30, 2026.
