James Burgess for Ashburn City Council

Sec. 22-55Same—Manner of recording entry; corrections; inspection

Unchanged since the 2007 code
Plain English: what this chapter covers

This is the chapter for anyone running a business in town: the yearly occupation tax (the city's business license), plus special rules for pawn shops, phone companies, arcades and coin-operated machines, fireworks stands, food trucks, and permits for special events on city property like festivals, parades and big cookouts in the park. Several parts are fairly recent (2015-2025), but some, like the pawnshop rules, are older and still describe paper record books.

Entries in records required in section 22-54 hereof shall appear in ink and shall be in chronological order. No blank lines may be left between entries. No obliterations, alterations, or erasures may be made. Corrections may be made by drawing a line of ink through the entry without destroying its legibility. The record book shall be open to the inspection of any duly authorized law enforcement officer (under the supervision and cognizance of the police chief) during the ordinary hours of business or at any reasonable time.

This is a plain-English guide, not legal advice. The official code is on Municode and at City Hall. Our copy is from April 30, 2026.
