James Burgess for Ashburn City Council

Sec. 22-42Public hearings

Last changed 2003
Plain English: what this chapter covers

This is the chapter for anyone running a business in town: the yearly occupation tax (the city's business license), plus special rules for pawn shops, phone companies, arcades and coin-operated machines, fireworks stands, food trucks, and permits for special events on city property like festivals, parades and big cookouts in the park. Several parts are fairly recent (2015-2025), but some, like the pawnshop rules, are older and still describe paper record books.

(a) After January 1, 2004, the city shall conduct at least one public hearing before adopting any or resolution which will increase the rate specified in section 22-34(c).

(b) In any year when revenue from is greater than revenue from occupation taxes for the preceding year, the city shall hold one public hearing as part of the process of determining how to use the additional revenue.
