James Burgess for Ashburn City Council

Sec. 22-102Security

Last changed 2022
Plain English: what this chapter covers

This is the chapter for anyone running a business in town: the yearly occupation tax (the city's business license), plus special rules for pawn shops, phone companies, arcades and coin-operated machines, fireworks stands, food trucks, and permits for special events on city property like festivals, parades and big cookouts in the park. Several parts are fairly recent (2015-2025), but some, like the pawnshop rules, are older and still describe paper record books.

The applicant shall at applicant's expense provide one POST certified police officer for every 100 attendees or any portion of the next 100 attendees. The officers shall attend the event for its entire jurisdiction. It shall be the duty of the police officer to see that the event is conducted in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations including without limitation the of the city and in an orderly and peaceful manner consistent with the health, safety and welfare of the city.
