Sec. 34-52Designation of bail; procedure upon failure of bonded persons to appear
Plain English: what this chapter covers
This chapter lays out how Ashburn's municipal court runs: when it meets, how tickets and summonses get served, what happens if you miss court, and how bonds work. It also sets up the court-appointed defense lawyer and city prosecutor positions, and the extra charges added on top of fines. If you ever get a city citation, this is the chapter that explains the process.
Upon failure of any principal in any bond to appear where such principal is charged with a violation of any of the provisions of this Code or other of the city or upon the failure of any principal, who is a witness, to appear and testify as engaged, the judge of the shall pass a rule requiring the principal and sureties on such bond or recognizance to show cause before him/her on any date named therein, not to be less than a period of time as set by the judge of the municipal court from the passage of such rule, why they should not be required to pay the amount of such bond or recognizance and all costs of forfeiture.
This is a plain-English guide, not legal advice. The official code is on Municode and at City Hall. Our copy is from April 30, 2026.
