James Burgess for Ashburn City Council

Sec. 38-33Article remedial

Last changed 2004
Plain English: what this chapter covers

This is the chapter for overgrown lots, junk cars, run-down houses and condemned buildings. It sets minimum standards for homes and rentals, like working plumbing, heat and hot water, and lays out how the city can take an owner to court, clean up or tear down a property, and put a lien on it. It also covers erosion control for land clearing and construction, protection zones around the city's water wells, and outdoor watering days.

This article is remedial and shall be construed to secure the beneficial interests and purposes thereof, through structural strength, stability, sanitation, adequate light and ventilation and safety to life and property from fire and other hazards incident to the construction, alteration, repair, removal, demolition, use and occupancy of dwellings, rooming houses, buildings, structures, premises, or properties.
