James Burgess for Ashburn City Council

Sec. 38-101Compliance

Last changed 2004
Plain English: what this chapter covers

This is the chapter for overgrown lots, junk cars, run-down houses and condemned buildings. It sets minimum standards for homes and rentals, like working plumbing, heat and hot water, and lays out how the city can take an owner to court, clean up or tear down a property, and put a lien on it. It also covers erosion control for land clearing and construction, protection zones around the city's water wells, and outdoor watering days.

No person shall occupy as owner-occupant, or let or sublet to another for any use or occupancy, any dwelling, building, or structure, or any portion thereof, which does not comply with the provisions of this article.
