James Burgess for Ashburn City Council

Sec. 54-99Acquisition of property

Last changed 2007
Plain English: what this chapter covers

This chapter creates the Ashburn Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) and the Ashburn Local Historic District. If your property is a designated historic property or sits in the district, you need a 'certificate of appropriateness' from the HPC before making exterior changes, demolishing or moving a building. Ordinary repairs, interior work and paint colors don't need one.

The HPC may, where such action is authorized by the mayor and city council, and is reasonably necessary or appropriate for the preservation of a unique historic property, enter into negotiations with the owner for the acquisition by gift, purchase, exchange, or otherwise, to the property or any interest therein. Such action shall be coordinated with the development authority and/or downtown development authority, when applicable.
