Plain English: what this chapter covers

This chapter creates the Ashburn Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) and the Ashburn Local Historic District. If your property is a designated historic property or sits in the district, you need a 'certificate of appropriateness' from the HPC before making exterior changes, demolishing or moving a building. Ordinary repairs, interior work and paint colors don't need one.

Violations of any provisions of this chapter shall be punished in the same manner as is provided for punishment of violations of the zoning of the city. Per section 12-4 of the Ashburn Zoning Ordinance, "Any person, firm, or corporation, violating any provision of this chapter shall be guilty upon conviction and shall be punished a maximum of $500.00. Each day such violation shall continue shall constitute a separate offense."
