Sec. 54-121Ordinary repair or maintenance
Plain English: what this chapter covers
This chapter creates the Ashburn Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) and the Ashburn Local Historic District. If your property is a designated historic property or sits in the district, you need a 'certificate of appropriateness' from the HPC before making exterior changes, demolishing or moving a building. Ordinary repairs, interior work and paint colors don't need one.
Ordinary repair or maintenance of any exterior architectural or environmental feature in or on a historic property to correct deterioration, decay, or damage; or to sustain the existing form, and that does not involve a material change in appearance or a change in design, design materials or the outer appearance thereof, does not require a certificate of appropriateness.
