Plain English: what this chapter covers
This chapter covers city property taxes: billing, due dates, interest, penalties, and what happens if they go unpaid, up to a tax sale. It also covers taxes on insurers, banks and hotel rooms, the monthly E-911 charge, and the 2022 Blighted Property Ordinance, which raises taxes on officially blighted, non-owner-occupied property and gives a tax break once it's fixed.
There is levied an annual license fee upon each insurer doing business within the city in the amount of $40.00. For each separate business location in excess of one not covered by section 78-32, which is operating on behalf of such insurers within the city, there is levied a license fee in the amount of $40.00. For the purposes of this section, the term "insurer" means a company which is authorized to transact business in any of the classes of insurance designated in § 33-3-5.
