Sec. 78-171Notice to tax commissioner

Last changed 2022
Plain English: what this chapter covers

This chapter covers city property taxes: billing, due dates, interest, penalties, and what happens if they go unpaid, up to a tax sale. It also covers taxes on insurers, banks and hotel rooms, the monthly E-911 charge, and the 2022 Blighted Property Ordinance, which raises taxes on officially blighted, non-owner-occupied property and gives a tax break once it's fixed.

It shall be the duty of the public officer to notify the county tax commissioner in writing as to designation or removal of designation of a specific property as maintained in a blighted condition. Such notice shall identify the specific property by street address and tax map, block and parcel number, as assigned by the county tax assessor's office. The public officer shall cooperate with the tax commissioner to assure accurate tax billing of those properties subject to increased or reduced ad valorem taxation under this article.
