Public Safety

Whether somebody comes when you call.

4 commitments1 in the first 90 days0 I can do alone

The problem

Safety here isn't an abstraction. It's whether somebody comes when you call, and how long it takes. Most residents have never seen a response time figure for their own street. And small departments lose trained officers to cities that simply pay more, which means we are training people for Tifton and Albany.

What the city actually controls

Police pay, staffing, and grant applications. Fire service arrangements. Street lighting. Not EMS — that is a county function, and a councilman cannot direct an ambulance. What the city can do is ask for the numbers, publish them, and advocate at the county.

A young person with somewhere to be on a Friday night is the least expensive policing any city ever found.
