Section 15Penalties for violations
Plain English: what this chapter covers
Section 10 controls sign size, placement and permits, including billboards along I-75, yard signs, and signs that don't need a permit. Section 15 (added 2011) sets a $150-per-day fine for sign violations. The sign rules themselves date to 1996 and sort signs partly by what they say, which is worth a legal check-up (see flags).
(a) All signs shall be maintained in good condition so as to present a neat and orderly appearance, and in compliance with all of the provisions of this . The city may, after due notice, issue a citation to any permittee for any sign which fails to comply with the provisions of this ordinance, and/or which shows gross neglect or becomes dilapidated. Such due notice shall be in writing, shall specify the sign and location, and shall state the violation which is alleged to have occurred, and/or that the sign has not been properly maintained. The city shall give the permittee ten days to rectify the violation and/or the condition or remove the sign before issuing a citation.
(b) The city may issue a citation for violation of this article [] by any sign erected, altered, converted, or used in violation of this article [ordinance].
(c) Any person violating any provision of this article [] shall be liable for a fine of $150.00 for each violation. Each day a sign is posted in violation of this article [ordinance] shall constitute a separate violation.
