Sec. 18-31Codes adopted by reference
Needs a look
Builders and homeowners reading the city code would see codes that are nearly 20 years old and not what inspectors actually apply. See the fix
Plain English: what this chapter covers
This chapter says which state construction codes the city enforces (building, plumbing, electrical, fire and so on), requires every house and building to display its assigned street number, and sets water-saving limits for toilets, faucets and shower heads. It's short, and the list of code editions hasn't been updated since 2009.
The following Georgia State Minimum Standard Codes, the latest editions as adopted and amended by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs, shall be enforced by the city:
International Building Code
2006 Edition with Georgia Amendments
International Mechanical Code
2006 Edition with Georgia Amendments
International Fuel Gas Code
2006 Edition with Georgia Amendments
International Plumbing Code
2006 Edition with Georgia Amendments
National Electrical Code

International Energy Conservation Code

History: (Ord. No. 09-09, § 1, 11-5-2009)
Editor's note— Section 1 of Ord. No. 09-09, adopted Nov. 11, 2009, repealed former § 18-31 and enacted a new § 18-31 as set out herein. The former § 18-31 pertained to similar subject matter and derived from Code 1983.
This is a plain-English guide, not legal advice. The official code is on Municode and at City Hall. Our copy is from April 30, 2026.
