Needs a look

Residents waiting on the city to deal with an overgrown lot face a slow, paperwork-heavy process, and owners can't see what the fine is. See the fix

Plain English: what this chapter covers

This is the chapter for overgrown lots, junk cars, run-down houses and condemned buildings. It sets minimum standards for homes and rentals, like working plumbing, heat and hot water, and lays out how the city can take an owner to court, clean up or tear down a property, and put a lien on it. It also covers erosion control for land clearing and construction, protection zones around the city's water wells, and outdoor watering days.

Any person, firm, or corporation that shall do anything prohibited or fail to do anything required by the provisions of this article, as they now exist or as they may hereafter be amended, upon conviction of a violation in shall be subject to a fine and/or imprisonment in accordance with the City Charter. Where any offense or violation continues from day to day, each day's continuance thereof shall be deemed a separate offense.
