Sec. 54-86Entities exempt from application requirements
Plain English: what this chapter covers
This chapter creates the Ashburn Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) and the Ashburn Local Historic District. If your property is a designated historic property or sits in the district, you need a 'certificate of appropriateness' from the HPC before making exterior changes, demolishing or moving a building. Ordinary repairs, interior work and paint colors don't need one.
The department of transportation and any contractors, including the City of Ashburn and Turner County, performing work funded by the department of transportation are not required to obtain certificate of appropriateness. The City of Ashburn and Turner County are exempt from the requirement of obtaining certificate of appropriateness; provided, however, that the City of Ashburn and Turner County shall notify the HPC at least 45 days prior to beginning an undertaking that would otherwise require a certificate of appropriateness and allow the HPC an opportunity to comment.
