Sec. 54-91Approach taken by the HPC in reviewing a certificate of appropriateness application

Last changed 2007
Plain English: what this chapter covers

This chapter creates the Ashburn Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) and the Ashburn Local Historic District. If your property is a designated historic property or sits in the district, you need a 'certificate of appropriateness' from the HPC before making exterior changes, demolishing or moving a building. Ordinary repairs, interior work and paint colors don't need one.

In making a decision on an application, the HPC shall be aware of the importance of finding a way to meet the current needs of the applicant. The HPC shall also recognize the importance of approving plans that will be reasonable for the applicant to implement that decision.
