James Burgess for Ashburn City Council

Sec. 62-178[Law enforcement acting in official capacity.]

Unchanged since the 2007 code

Needs a look

It promises officers and residents a legal protection that the city likely can't provide. See the fix

Plain English: what this chapter covers

This is the city's general 'don't do it' chapter. It covers firing guns, loitering, noise, fireworks, juvenile and park curfews, disorderly conduct, littering, false burglar alarms and abandoned shopping carts. Most violations go to Ashburn Municipal Court.

Any police officer or other law enforcement officer who acts in compliance with this article is hereby declared to be acting in the course of official duty and is not criminally or civilly liable to any person therefor.

This is a plain-English guide, not legal advice. The official code is on Municode and at City Hall. Our copy is from April 30, 2026.
