Sec. 42-65Trial of violators

Last changed 2006

Needs a look

Forced street work is an outdated penalty, and the fees may no longer cover the city's real costs. See the fix

Plain English: what this chapter covers

This short chapter sets up the fire department and spells out Ashburn's burning rules. You need a free permit from Ashburn Fire and Emergency Services to burn natural vegetation, the burn has to be well away from houses and streets, and you can never burn trash, tires, plastics or building materials.

The presiding officer of the Ashburn Municipal Court shall have the power and authority to try all offenses and violations against the laws and of the city and, upon conviction, to punish offenders by a fine not exceeding $1,000.00, by imprisonment for any period not exceeding six months, or by compulsory work on the streets or upon any of the public works of the city for any period not exceeding six months, or by any combination of such penalties, as the presiding officer of the court may decide.
